Happiness is...

"We tend to forget that happiness doesn't come as a result of getting something we don't have, but rather of recognizing and appreciating what we do have."  ~Frederick Keonig

When Coca-Cola decided to send three young people on a mission around the world to find out what makes people happy, I am sure they could have never envisioned the end product would be so powerful.  Kelly, Tony and Antonio, set out as "happiness ambassadors" to travel 206 countries and territories to find out what makes people happy.  What they found seemed very simple, love, family, friends, music, sports, good food and being able to share these experiences with others.

In our day to day lives we often forget to stop and appreciate what we have in our lives and what beauty surrounds us.  I had a conversation with a man the other day about vacationing in Puerto Rico.  He told me that every time he visits there he is reminded of how important it is to take time to slow down, breathe and be nice to others around him.  Once back in his hometown in New England, he is sucked back into the social vacuum of fast living, deadlines and metaphorical blinders.  If each and every one of us would make the conscious descision to be aware of our surroundings, pay more attention and take time out for gratitude, we might all be a bit closer to finding our own definition of happiness.
